      The marriages of four couples

My view on marriage and love

Body:As we all know, if you know something about the author's background, you will appreciate the book on a profounder and better level. The book first published in 1813, as Jane Austen’s second novel, she started it 1796 as her first persevering effort for publication. She finished the original manuscript by 1797 in Steventon, Hampshire, where she lived with her parents and siblings in the town rectory. Austen originally called the story First Impressions, but it was never published under that title; instead, she made extensive revisions to the manuscript, then retitled and eventually published it as Pride and Prejudice. Austen in this novel was full of wit and humor reflected the late eighteenth Century, early nineteenth Century British country customs and living ways of the world, to give the art of imagination.(writing background)

Also, alternates in stories happen around Elizabeth’s happy or unhappy marriages to reveal the author’s hope living in true love at that era. Unfortunately, no matter what kind of camouflage, I hate. ” Darcy has not changed his arrogant disposition in order to please Elizabeth, Elizabeth shows herself truly as well. Neither of them is deliberately to create good impressions, but is truly to show their inner sides. Elizabeth has been living in her own prejudice and ignored the truth, after Darcy’s interpretation and her judgment, finally found happiness.(Primary coverage)

      LoveTypes

My understanding and half-finish of the book Pride and Prejudice, its movie helps me a great deal.Having a clear idea about each person?ˉs emotions?¢feelings and traits, I fully understand it, which I find completely neceary to speak highly of as an exceeding affecting love story, though sadne(Elizabeth, with whose head the detestation towards Mr.Darcy who appears to be highly proud ?¢superior and conceited at everyone?ˉs first sight, filled at their first meet in the ball) spreads as soon as the story begins, a happy end, turn out to be at length.

This well-known to every family story, which is about love between a beautiful young lady and a handsome young gentleman., written by Jane Austen. The former lives in countryside with four other sisters brought up in family without even a tutor, while the latter raised in strict ?¢traditional rules, inculcated with polite breeding and earns ten thousand pounds per year.

At then circumstance, in which fierce well-matched marriage value was still deeply rooted in every member?ˉs mind. The poibility of their love leads them to marriage appears to be out of reach.Because: the disinclinations, which Elizabeth has nothing except ,towards Mr.Darcy after in the ball her ask to dance with him refused. No sooner places she the trust in Officer Wickham?ˉs malicious prejudice against him, besides increasing the detestation, she is even so a little bit fond of Wickham that she can?ˉt prevent herself from looking for him in the ball held in Netherfield where Mr.Darcy?ˉs friend- Mr.Bingley lives, and disappointment swelled after finding his absence.Till this, the impoibility of Elizabeth?ˉs marry Darcy seems to be certain.Sever months later, she happens to overhear it?ˉs Mr.Darcy separated Mr.Bingley from Jane, her eldest sister, the hatred increases sharply to the edge. However, one of her sisters Lydia elopes with Wickham, who secretly ask her father for a huge amount of charge. This event confirms Wickham?ˉs dark character which has been mentioned in Mr.Darcy?ˉs explanation letter given to Elizabeth.Ice seems to melt slowly; Elizabeth seems to begin to trust him a little. What another good news later to be is that she accidentally learns the it was Mr.Darcy again shoulder the whole cost of Lydia?ˉs wedding with Wickham.Lydia spills the beans when she lost herself in ecstasy. The moment on hearing this, she is greatly shocked, then highly touched, finding she has wronged??Mr.Darcy all the way, hearty saying with tears in eyes to her father when facing Mr.Darcy?ˉs proposal ?°I do, I do like him.I love him.Indeed he has no improper pride. He is perfectly amiable?± .The ice hitherto entirely melts which always stands before a hearty love. The end, everybody seems to know, they living in forever felicity, just as wished.Four kinds of person I consider there are in this book, according

to attitude towards love. Each archetype , which can be applied to even now, comes from and goes back to allude to the relevant social one.The first one is Mr.Collins as fine model, who took the advantage of his poeion of Mr.Bennet?ˉs house to propose to Elizabeth, then refused, but ridiculously thinks her repeated refusal is usual with young ladies to reject the addrees of man whom they secretly meant to accept. Then, he hopelely marries Charlottle, Elizabeth?ˉs friend. This kind is self-conceited?¢proud?¢unauming and ignorant, similar to those who consider everyone would marry money, and treat love as trade, or just intent to find a life-long companion instead of a life-long lover, when they being at marry age.Another word: They follow their age, not feeling from the bottom of heart.

The second is Lydia as good example, similar to those who always take a shine to lady-killers at the first sight, and so blindly fall in love that leave aside family member?ˉs cares and advices, resulting in easily taken in for their light love (if it can be called love) which ruined their felicity in return.

The two above both are love players.Has anybody ever thought of one who combines both of them exists. The answer is Mrs.Bennet, who eager to introduce all her daughters to Mr.Bingley in the ball with the hope of one of them could be singled out; who screams out along with Lydia when seeing charming officers paing in line in the street; who coaxes and threats Elizabeth to accept Mr.Collins?ˉs offer of marriage.Similar to those kinds of parents who always try every thing to make , sometimes even force their children to marry the rich. The last kind is Elizabeth?¢Jane?¢Mr.Darcy?¢Mr..Bingley as fine examples.??They take affection serious, as a matter of entire life.No matter poor?¢fortune?¢sick?¢healthy, as long as love make each other close, they will always go whole hog to carry on the entire life together, screw courages to overcome whatever threats?¢forces jump out.Because they have already realized what they are when finding whom they born to live with for the whole life.Nothing in the world could stop the faith. The book says so, so does the truth.I believe this kind of person will be forever happy, for following their real feelings and instinct, not money?¢fortune or anything else.

Truth be told, I didn?ˉt finish the book before the writing. But having watched its movie aures me what worthy reading and what fascinating to be got, convinces me to carry on and repeat. What I?ˉm talking about may appear to be superficial, they are my inner voice indeed.

Pride and Prejudice is my favorite novel, which impresses me for a long time. It describes a love story mainly between Elisabeth, who I like the best, and a rich and proud man, Darcy.

The story began with the arrival of a crowd of rich men who rent a house near the Bennet. In a ball, Elisabeth gave such a bad impression on Darcy's first pride that she refused Darcy's first proposal. Darcy was so surprised by Elisabeth's refusal that he loved Elisabeth more deeply. And Elisabeth's antipathy(厭惡,憎恨) made Darcy realize his shortings. He was not angry about Elisabeth's censure, but also he changed his previous proud attitude. During Elisabeth's travel in Darcy's manor(莊園). Darcy was very nice to her uncle and aunt, different from previous proud attitude. When one of Elisabeth's sisters ran away with Wickham, Darcy helped Elisabeth find her sister and prevent her sister from the loss of reputation, with nobody knowing that it was he who helped the Bennet. So many changes in Darcy eliminated(消除) Elisabeth's prejudice. At last it end with their marriage.

Taking the daily life as its material, this story reflected the life and love in a conservative你(保守派) and blocking England town. It reflected the author's view about marriage that it is fault to marry for property, money and status and it is also foolish to take these elements into account. In fact Darcy's pride manifested(證明) the gap (間隙,差距)between their statuses(地位). Since his pride existed, there is no ideal marriage between Elisabeth and Darcy. From the different attitudes from Darcy's two proposals, it reflected the feminine(女性) pursuit of personality independence and right equality, which is a progressive(先進(jìn)的) character from the image of Elisabeth.

Many people simply regard Pride and Prejudice as a love story, but in my opinion, this book is an illustration of the society at that time. She perfectly reflected the relation between money and marriage at her time and gave the people in her works vivid characters. The characters have their own personalities. Mrs. Bennet is a woman who makes great efforts to marry off her daughters. Mr. Bingley is a friendly young man, but his friend, Mr. Darcy, is a very proud man who seems to always feel superior. Even the five daughters in Bennet family are very different. Jane is simple, innocent and never speaks evil of others. Elizabeth is a clever girl who always has her own opinion. Mary likes reading classic books. (Actually she is a pedant.) Kitty doesn’t have her own opinion but likes to follow her sister, Lydia. Lydia is a girl who follows exotic things, handsome man, and is somehow a little profligate. When I read the book, I can always find the same personalities in the society now. That is why I think this book is indeed the representative of the society in Britain in the 18th century.

The family of gentleman in the countryside is Jane Austen’s favourite topic. But this little topic can reflect big problems. It concludes the stratum situation and economic relationships in Britain in her century. You can find these from the very beginning of this book.

The first sentence in this book is impressive. It reads: “It is a truth well known to all the world that an unmarried man in possession of a large fortune must be in need of a wife”. The undertone is very clear: the foundation of the marriage at that time is not emotion but possession.

People always think that Austen was an expert at telling love stories. In fact, the marriage in her book is not the result of love, but the result of economic needs. After reading this book, I know the truth is that a poor woman must be in need of a husband, a wealthy man.

I couldn’t forget how eager Mrs. Bennet wants to marry off her daughters. If you want to know why she is so crazy about these things, I must mention the situation in Britain at that time. Only the eldest son had the privilege of inheriting his father’s possessions. Younger sons and daughters who are used to luxurious lives have no choice but marry a man or woman in possession of a large fortune to continue their comfortable lives. Thus, we can see that getting married is a way to become wealthier, particularly for women without many possessions. Jane Austen told us that money and possession determined everything, including marriage and love in her century.

In “Pride and Prejudice”, the sister of Mr. Bingley strongly opposed his plan of marrying Jane because the Bennets don’t have many possessions and their social positions are much lower than them. From this, we can see there are a lot of obstacles for a not very rich woman to marry a wealthy husband. The society, the relatives would not allow them to get married.

In modern society, although the marriages of economic needs have decreased rapidly, the concept of “money determines everything” is still rooted in some people’s mind. A lot of parents try hard to interfere their children’s marriages. Education background, possessions, jobs remains the main reason that may influence one’s marriage. Marry for money is still a big problem in our society. We can’t help thinking: can money determine everything?

Austen left this problem for us to think. The genius of Jane Austen lies in this perfect simplicity, the simplicity that reflects big problems. Although Austen was only 21 when she wrote “Pride and Prejudice”, her sharp observation of social lives makes the style of this book surprisingly mature and lively. The plots in her works are always very natural. The development of the plot is as inevitable as a problem in mathematics. I think the depth of Pride and Prejudice is the reason that makes this book prominent and classic. Today, her book still can be the guide telling us the economic relationships both at her time and in modern time.

Male and Female Attitudes towards Marriage

Pride and Prejudice is a novel written by Jane Austen,an English writer, who first gave the novel its modern characters through the treatment of everyday life.“It is a truth universally acknowledged that a single man in poeion of a good fortune must be in want of a wife. However little known the feelings or views of such a man may be on his first entering a neighborhood, this truth is so well fixed in the minds of surrounding families, that he is considered as the rightful property of some one or other of their daughters.” The novel directly begins with the theme: Marriage and Money.Jane Austen imposed her view of marriage on her describing of relationship among different males and females.According to the novel, males and females in some degree have diffident values towards marriage.Through some main characters, we can have a comparison.

First, we throw our eyes to the male characters.Take George Wickham for example, he is an old acquaintance of Darcy from childhood, and an officer in the militia unit stationed near Merton.Superficially charming, he rapidly forms a friendship with Elizabeth Benet, prompting remarks upon his suitability as a potential husband. He spreads numerous tales about the wrongs Darcy has done to him, coloring the popular perception of the other man in local society. It is eventually revealed that these tales are distortions, and that Darcy was the wronged man in their acquaintance. He is a man with bad quality, but his appearance is deceptive, he has a witty tongue and elegant behavior, who is a deadly attraction to women like Lydia.Once he was addicted to gambling and escape from Breton because of a large amount of debts.Lydia has neither high status nor money, but he is willing to have an accompanier on his escaping way.The book never mentioned why Wickham choose Lydia as his wife. The primary reason, in my eyes, is money.Because he fell in love with Mi King and Elizabeth before not because of love but money. At that time, Wickham can not have a large heritage because of his lower social status, so he is greedier for money. At last, Mr.Darcy helped him to pay for his debts and provided him with another 1000 pounds and a official position, which immediately led to his marriage. So we can easily see, in spite of paion, money played an important role in their marriage.Besides, Mr.Collins aged twenty-five, is Mr.Benet’s clergyman cousin and, as Mr.Benet has no son, heir to his estate.Austen described him as "not a sensible man, and the deficiency of nature had been but little aisted by education or society.” He is a clumsy and conceit man and good at flattering, so he can easily appreciated

by Mrs.Catherine and gets a position in church.Mr.Collins chose Lady Lucas obviously attributed to love.He expreed his reasons about marriage when he asked for Elizabeth’s hands:” First, that I think it a right thing for every clergyman in easy circumstances (like myself) to set the example of matrimony in his parish.Secondly, that I can convinced it will add every greatly to my happine; and thirdly which perhaps I ought to have mentioned earlier, that it is the particular advice and recommendation of the very noble lady whom I have the honor of calling patrone.” So Mr.Collins is a person who sacrifices his marriage to reality and reputation.

In spite of Mr.Bingley and Mr.Darcy’s values, I think, Wickham and Mr.Collins’s attitudes toward marriage should be the majority of values at that time.Males pursue high status and money rather than love.So how could they be happy? Their marriages are doomed to tragedies.

Now we will throw our eyes back to females.Of course, Elizabeth Benet is our first consideration.Elizabeth Bennet is the main character and protagonist. The reader sees the unfolding plot and the other characters mostly from her viewpoint. The second of the Benet daughters at twenty years old, she is intelligent, lively, attractive, and witty, but with a tendency to judge on first impreions and perhaps to be a little selective of the evidence upon which she bases her judgments.Elizabeth believed that marriage must be based on love, which is one of the reasons why she misunderstood Mr.Darcy before. She is such a girl with great wit, courage and self-conscience so that she is not polluted by society and keeps her own opinions. And at last grasped Mr.Darcy’s heart tightly and live a happy life.In contrast to Elizabeth, her intimate friend Charlotte Lucas doesn’t think highly either of men or of matrimony, marriage had always been her object. She believes that it is the only honorable provision for well-educated young women of small fortune, and however uncertain of giving happine, must be their pleasantest preservative from want.So although Mr.Collins to be sure was neither sensible nor agreeable; his society was irksome, and his attachment to her must be imaginary. But still, he would be her husband. This is a miserable marriage which put interest ahead of everything.

It seems a little bit difference between males and females’ attitudes towards marriage.Males completely regard money and status beyond everything while women conceal something in some degree but still be obseed by reality.Elizabeth is an exception.Jane Austen expreed

marriage and love vividly among gentlemen and ladies around her by her specific female foresight. She criticized the civil marriages through Elizabeth’s tongue. It was obviously that the author not approved that money should be totally divided with love, but not equal to love.It was true that money played an important role in marriage, but it not means one can gain love and marriage through his big fortune. The author made full of other ladies’ relationships to expre the ideal marriage of Elizabeth.

I have the same opinion with Jane Austen on marriage and love.According to the novel, the marriage based on money and reputation is not stable at all and people can not feel happy.Whether you admit or not, marriage and love do sometimes aociate with property and status, in my eyes, it not completely lies on property and status.Marriage should be based on mutual love and respect.

many people simply regard pride and prejudice as a love story, but in my opinion, this book is an illustration of the society at that time. she perfectly reflected the relation between money and marriage at her time and gave the people in her works vivid characters.

the characters have their own personalities. mrs. bennet is a woman who makes great efforts to marry off her daughters. mr. bingley is a friendly young man, but his friend, mr. darcy, is a very proud man who seems to always feel superior. even the five daughters in bennet family are very different. jane is simple, innocent and never speaks evil of others. elizabeth is a clever girl who always has her own opinion. mary likes reading classic books.

Pride and Prejudice is my favorite novel, which impresses me for a longtime. It describes a love story mainly between Elisabeth, who I like the best, and a rich and proud man, Darcy.

The story began with the arrival of a crowd of rich men who rent a housenear the Bennet. In a ball, Elisabeth gave such a bad impression on Darcy’sfirst pride that she refused Darcy’s first proposal. Darcy was so surprised byElisabeth’s refusal that he loved Elisabeth more deeply. And Elisabeth’santipathy made Darcy realize his shortings. He was not angry about Elisabeth’scensure, but also he changed his previous proud attitude.

During Elisabeth’s travel in Darcy’s manor. Darcy was very nice to heruncle and aunt, different from previous proud attitude. When one of Elisabeth’ssisters ran away with Wickham, Darcy helped Elisabeth find her sister andprevent her sister from the loss of reputation, with nobody knowing that it washe who helped the Bennet. So many changes in Darcy eliminated Elisabeth’sprejudice. At last it end with their marriage.

Taking the daily life as its material, this story reflected the life andlove in a conservative你 and blocking England town. It reflected the author’sview about marriage that it is fault to marry for property, money and status andit is also foolish to take these elements into account. In fact Darcy’s pridemanifested the gap between their statuses.

Since his pride existed, there is no ideal marriage between Elisabeth andDarcy. From the different attitudes from Darcy’s two proposals, it reflected thefeminine pursuit of personality independence and right equality, which is aprogressive character from the image of Elisabeth.

I’ve read a book called Pride and Prejudice written by Jane Austen during thiummer holidays.Jane Austen was unmarried all her life. She was brought up in a comfortable environment , so there’s not too many conflictsin her novel. In Pride and Prejudice she talked different ideas about love and marriage through different characters.

      WhenIfirst knowthisbookbywatchingthemovie longbefore,Ijustconsideredittobealovestory.Butnowafterreadingthebookmyself, I find it’sfarmore thanalove story , it’salsothereflection ofthe society.

A good book not only can bring you exciting ,but also give you some further thinking .From their love story I realize that it’s stupid to judge a person just by the first impreion and always have prejudice on the person who you dislike, and pride sometimes will make you far away from the people.

In a word, we can’t judge a person without any further recognize or by other people’s words!

There is no doubt that Pride and Prejudice is well-known, the book that iswritten by Jane Austen has an influence on the culture. As far as I’m concerned, the ending of the fiction is wonderful, Elizabeth and Darcy won theirhappiness, leading a colourful life .

First of all, let’s learn about the author who is Jane Austen .She wasunmarried all her life. She was born in a mid-class family and was brought up ina fortable environment with harmonious surroundings, so there’s not too manyconflicts in her sight neither in her novel. In Pride and Prejudice she talkeddifferent ideas about love and marriage through different characters.

Jane Austen disclosed mid-class young ladies’ different ideas of marriageand love through describing the different ways in which the Bennet girls doingwith their marriage problems, and this undoubtedly shows the writer’s idea aboutlove and marriage: it’s wrong to get married just for property, wealth andstatus while neither would it be without caring about those elements.Jane Austenjust attached great significance to marriage through hernovel

by telling people that marriage should be regardedcarefully.

Then, let’s get close to story. The details is that Mr. Bennet is an Englishgentleman with an estate in Hertfordshire. He has five unmarried daughters butno sons while his inheritance must be inherited by a male, so Mrs. Bennet hasbeen keen to seek husband for her daughters with great enthusiasm.

One day the Bennets had a new neighbor called Bingley who was a wealthybachelor and followed be the target of Mrs. Bennet. At a ball Bingley fell inlove with Jane Bennet who’s the oldest daughter of the Bennets. Bingley’s friendDarcy also came to the ball and struck the sights, many girls liked him while hethought all of them couldn’t suit his preference, including Elizabeth. Mr. Darcyalways shows others a impression of pride, having found this Elizabeth began tohate Mr. Darcy.

Before long Darcy fell in love with Elizabeth Bennett because of her lovelybehavior, while Elizabeth is disgusted by his pride and has a prejudice abouthim. The official Wickham was weled by the villagers, and Elizabeth also took ashine to him. Wickham told someting about darcy, which increased Eli’s prejudiceabout Mr. Darcy. At

another ball Mr. Darcy invited Elizabeth to dance with him, but Eli refusedhim. Eli’s elder male cousin Mr. Collin came to Hertfordshire to inherit theBennett's property by rules, he wanted to marry with one of the Bennets. Havingknown that Jane was already engaged with Mr. Bingley, he asked Elizabeth tomarry him but was seriously rejected. At last he proposed to Charllote who wasEli’s friend.

Mr. Collins was good at flattering and he got the pastorate with the helpof Lady Catherine. Once his family was invited to Rosings Garden by LadyCatherine. Elizabeth also went there with Mr. Collin and Charllote. There shemet Mr. Darcy who’s Lady Catherine’s nephew. Then Mr. Darcy came to the Collins’and confessed his love for Elizabeth, of course he was rejected impolitely.

Afterwards Mr. Darcy wrote a letter to Eli in order to remove hermisunderstandings of him. Elizabeth’s uncle and aunt were also impressed by Mr.Darcy’s politeness. Gradually Eli’s prejudice of Mr. Darcy disappeared.Eventually they became couple.

In my opinion ,on the one hand,I think Elizabeth has personality ethicwhich caused her independent idea about love and marriage and in consequence sheearned a happy

life. There’re also Eli’s sisters’ love stories served as contrasts to thefemale subject’s ideal marriage, such as Charlotte and Collin’s life: they dohad a luxury life, but there’s no real love between them and this kind ofmarriage is surely a tragedy of society. On the other hand,Darcy is brave ,he diddo his best to pursuit his love.

As a matter of fact, everyone has shortings ,after reading the story ,I didrealize that we should find our advantages and disadvantages byourselves. Moreover,it’s necessary for us to try our best to get over shortings.Iam aware that we ought to get along with others with the same attitude. The rightthat seeking for happiness is equal for everyone.therefore,we should value thethings that we have, and cherish the chances.
